Our annual Scratch Cup took place last Sunday at the club with 68 very keen low handicap golfers from all across the county. Its always an enjoyable event watching the best in the county do battle, this year was no exception with a quite brilliant -3 under par total by Minchinhampton’s Tom Workman. It was Tom’s third year of winning the Scratch Cup, he adds this to numerous wins across the county and in Duchess Salver events. He is also a regular in the GGU county first team and has been for sometime. Tom certainly did play the most consistent golf of the day doing the damage in his morning round of -3.
Our crop of talent also had a good showing at the championships, Cam Haines led the way and with only a matter of holes to play he was right in contention. His sublime -3 morning round matched Workman’s and it was certainly game on going into the afternoon. In the end a few dropped shots cost Cam but all in all he another impressive duchess salver event which hasn’t come un noticed by the county’s selectors.
Other notables in the over 35’s prize was the ROWGC duo of Robin Eckley taking 1st and Jason Bolton finishing a close second.
All in all Tom was a fitting champion, he gave a great speech commending the club and staff on the day and we certainly wish him and all the players the very best for the rest of the season.
It was the THSG’s first ever go at organising this presitous event and i would like to personally thank the club for giving the team the opportunity and the privilege of doing so. The highlight for me was working closely with the members to make the day a success. We certainly couldn’t of ran the day without the huge support from both the seniors, ladies and mens sections. The ball spotters and starters were amazing, as were the green staff and catering. I would also like to thank our brand partners Titleist for helping out with our goody bags for each competitor……..all in all the day was a huge success.
