What a weekend it was for the club with the Traders Cup and Mike Lane trophy played in glorious conditions!! The scores matched up to the weather with some scorching rounds recorded.

Both competitions are steeped in history and are very much our most prestigious competitions to win at the club. The Traders Cup is our oldest competition and is awarded to the player that scores the lowest nett score over the 36 holes. After round one Simon Mills topped the leaderboard with a fine 67nett followed by Steve Gwilliam with a 69nett. Closely followed in third place was Antony Graham and Jaydn Decloedt with 70nett. It was all set for a close finish on the final day, with the pins tucked away, Sunday would be all about who could take their chances!! Rhys McGinley shot the low round of the day with an awesome 63nett which catapulted him up the leaderboard. That said Sunday belonged to Jaydn Decloedt, his consistency over the two rounds shone through, with a 67nett he took the Traders Cup, Jaydn who was over joyed with the result put it all down to hard work on his game over the past 3 months.

The Mike Lane Trophy is awarded to the player that shoots the lowest gross score over the 36holes and as ever this was fiercely fought out by a number of our lower handicaps. Simon Mills stormed into an early lead after round 1 with a great level par score. Simon was closely followed by Niall Powell who shot a 74. With the weather the course was getting firmer and a low score was defiantly up for grabs on day 2. It was birdies galore on with Niall just about holding it together to take the championships. His 1 under par round was enough to clinch the title for the first time in his career. His rounds over the 2 days included 9 birdies and 1 eagle, impressive stuff!!

Niall now heads into a busy national schedule with his golf and then maybe back to America depending on new scholarship offers which are currently on the table. We will update you on these as and when we here more!!
